American football is very little popular in Europe. In Greece there is not an organized league, not even a single team. In some other european countries the sport is slowly but steadily making progress. There are organized championships held in Germany, France, Italy, UK, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Czech Rep., even Turkey!

Possible reasons for that low popularity are that American Football is a very harsh sport and requires great deal of organization even for a friendly game. Also the fact that it has a large number of complex and detailed rules makes it hard to comprehend.

Despite my efforts I haven't being able to locate a team or people with the desire to create one here in Greece. It is my belief that once greeks get acquinted with the sport they would be more interested in playing. There is an effort towards that direction for some years now with the broadcast of one, sometimes two, of the best weekly games from the NFL (National Football League) by the cable channel SuperSport.
